Queen supreme and barbie teen dreams

Queen supreme and barbie teen dreams - Jeffree Star

Barbie gets alot of bad press but what has she really done apart from being fabulous?  I can't see any plastic surgery marks on her so it looks like she was born with this figure! Okay, yes her measurements aren't humanly possible but it's good to have unrealistic expectations, it gives you something to aim at.  Most dreams are unrealistic, and you do tend to have them when your younger, but why do they suddenly stop?  That question you were asked when you were younger 'what do you want to be when you grow up' can be asked at any point in your life.  You can have a dream when your 6 and when your 60 and no-one can take that from you.  Sometimes it's good to take a step back and review your current situation, and ask yourself am I fulfilling my potential?  Dreams are there for a reason and to quote Jessie J - Dreaming is believing.

Red-dipped fingers look like strawberries

Red-dipped fingers look like strawberries - Jeffree Star

I love the dark humour of Jefree Stars lyrics and they make perfect makeup looks.  There are key aspects of makeup looks which anyone can take away and use for them self.  Learning the basics is key, and once you've understood these you can go on and create simple everyday looks, or go over the top like me!  The easiest way of understanding the concept of the basics is to just think how would you draw a human face with pencil.  You would need to to think where the face would need shadow, and where the face needs highlights.  The best part about makeup is that you can choose where you want these, and how much to want these to be on show, or how much to hide them.  Use glitter and shimmer products to highlight and matt to contour.  The differences in daylight won't be completely obvious, but if someone is going to use flash photography on your face, such as night out, the effects you've created with you makeup will be obvious.

Most of us have been guilty to using bronzer all over our face on a night out, and yes you may look nice and tanned in person, but the particles in that bronzer are going to light up your face like the 4th of july when a flash meets it.  And what's more important, drunk people looking at your face, or those pictures that will be in cyberspace forever?

Somewhere over the rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow - Judy Garland

A month ago my mind was blown after finding out Liza Minnelli is Judy Garlands daughter.  So some of you will have my reaction to this fact, and others are going to question how I didn't know this.  I even watched a program all about Judy and this wasn't mentioned once.  Judy Garland had an incredibly tough life and her story is incredibly sad, yet many people are oblivious to this.  People seem to forget that although someone may portray this happy go lucky character on the outside, that inside this might not be the case.
I can't remember where I saw this quote but it's stuck in my head, it was something about if you want that rainbow you have to go through all the rain first, and that is absolutely true.  It's a bit like people who moan about wanting to win the lottery but don't actually buy a lottery ticket.  You can't expect things to just happen in life.  You have to be pro active and seek out that rainbow for yourself.

Teeth don’t want no money

Teeth don’t want no money - Lady Gaga

This makeup look is my nob to New York, that concrete jungle where dreams are made of.  My first post on my blog quoted that lyric because to me, New York is everything.  I have been incredibly lucky in life, but with luck comes compromise and it's been far from plain sailing.  I am incredibly aware of the balance of the life and it seems when something goes right or good for me, something is sacrificed.  I'm far from complaining and I'm incredibly grateful for what comes my way but at times I do think why.
I think it's incredibly important to not have any regrets in life.  A negative or positive issue in life shapes you into the person you are today and although I wish aspects of my memory can be erased, I'm glad they can't be because I've learnt to deal with those issues to some degree, and so can anyone if they put their mind to it.

Unicorn on the road to love

Unicorn on the road to love - Lady Gaga

I published a post a while ago saying how computer games where taking away my inspiration and stopping me from thinking up ideas.  It was at this point during this makeup look when I suddenly realised how much computer games have giving me inspiration.  It's not secret that I am a massive fan of Lady Gaga and unfortunately I couldn't see her Born This Way Ball so this shoot was dedicated to this show.  There is something amazing that concerts that I love.  That opening song is just everything, and it's the most important part of a tour.  I would have loved to be there because I know what that experience would feel like and it makes me extremely happy to know that people I know got to be at the very centre of that, even on stage.
Inspiration from this shoot came from a mixture between Mass Effect and Final Fantasy.

V is for vanity every time I look at me

V is for vanity every time I look at me - Christina Aguilera

I always feel sorry for Christina because she produces amazing music and never seems to get the praise she deserves.  If she was on a singing contest, she would be the best singer there, but she wouldn't win.  People seem to misunderstand her and like me, shes the type of person who doesn't take herself too seriously.  Vanity is a funny word, the Google definition of this is: Excessive pride in or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements, and words associated with this are conceit, futility, vainglory, pride and arrogance.  The questions raised here are why pride and arrogance paired together, surely it's a good thing to take pride in something?  So by taking excessive pride in something means your arrogant? I don't think so.  It's good to take pride in anything you do in life, I think it's extremely important no matter what it is.  You may be in a job that you hate but you know what, you should take pride in what you achieve, even it's creating hundreds of burgers a day in Mcdonalds.  The world is one massive mechanism, and we are the clogs that complete it.

White lips pale face breathing in snowflakes

White lips pale face breathing in snowflakes - Ed Sheeran

The universal language of music can make songs deeply personal to an individual for an individual meaning.  The great thing about music is that it can evoke memories and this is one of the few ways that I can remember past events in my life.  I may not remember what I was wearing, the date or time, but I can remember what it was like through the music, and how I felt.
This lyric, not the song, reminds me of the movie Silent Hill and this is where my inspiration comes from.  I have an extremely vivid imagination and because of it horror films stick in my memory for well, forever.  Because of this I can't watch them, but I'm glad Silent Hill is one of my very few ones.  The story, special effects, costume and makeup are perfect and this is what makes it such a cult film.

X-Accessory, you’re my best accessory

X-Accessory, you’re my best accessory - Manila Luzon

Manila Luzon is one of my very favourite drag queens and it was a necessity to include a lyric.  This look is dedicated to Alexander McQueen hence the McQueen ring and necklace.  To anyone apart from myself, the link between a drag queen and McQueen seem a little far stretched but there is method to this madness.  I remember when the MET opened the Savage Beauty exhibition in New York, I sound like I was there but alas I wasn't.  I did my usual twitter feed one day to check what was new and saw Sahara Davenport was tweeting from the queue of the exhibition with Manila Luzon.  Being a massive fan of Rupauls drag race I tweeted her back, and sure enough she replied.  We had a twitter conversation which is about 4 separate tweets and I was just happy that they got to see Savage Beauty and be there.  Sahara and Manila were in a relationship at the time and a few months ago Sahara suddenly passed away.  This song was created before this and for me it's changed this song from something about material possessions, to something about the one you love, and that they are you best accessory.

You better work cover girl

You better work cover girl - RuPaul

One of the best things to happen to me in my life is reading a book by RuPaul.  The book entitled Workin' it!: Rupaul's guide to life, liberty and the pursuit of style is a fantastic way of seeing life and the book appeals to a large range of people.  Although their are chapters about drag, the majority of the book is about life, and I at least could relate aspects of this to my life.  It really is a fantastic book and their are online previews if you want a peek!  I took inspiration from Miss Congeniality for this look and the darker side of the life of a beauty queen, and from that I mean emotionally.  It can be a very lonely world if you feel like you can't reach out to someone about an issue and my advice is to find someone to let it all out to, even if it's through cyberspace.

Zombie boy but his heart is so cold

First of all I would like to start of this post by saying WELCOME to a new and improved Vanity Nightmare.  The first volume of Vanity Nightmare was created nearly 2 years ago, and today is the start of Vanity Nightmare 2.0.  Over January and February, 4 pictures will be released per week which will then conclude at the end of February with the completed online volume.

The concept of this volume is the same as the first.  26 photoshoots based around 26 different lyrics from A - Z.  There is reason behind each chosen lyric and this will sometimes be discussed in each post along with makeup products.

These shoots were all taken within a month, excluding preparation and everything from concept, to makeup, photography and graphics was created by myself.  The reason why I feel the need to state this is to show anyone out there what one individual can do when they put their mind to something.  I take pride in everything I do and I am extremely proud of what I have been able to complete and the best part is sharing my work with all of you.

Zombie boy but his heart is so cold - Natalia Kills

Now onto the first image.  This was the single most challenging shoot I have created and I am actually quite surprised at how well it turned out.  I have used paint before many times for shoots, but for some reason my skin reacted heavily to this paint, and I can't actually describe the pain I went though.  So words from the wise - do not attempt this effect with paint!  Having saying that, I was able to turn this negative into a positive and channelled this pain into something I could use and this is what made this shoot so successful.  My inspiration for this look actually comes from 2 computer games, Resident Evil and Black Ops and computer games is where quite a lot of my inspiration comes from.  I see colours in different ways to others and recently I have become more conscious of their presence.  Inspiration can really come from anywhere and the best way to document this, for me at least is through photography.
