Buried six feet under

Buried six feet under - Katy Perry

I created this makeup look to mirror a sculpture I created over 4 years ago.  It's one of my favorite pieces and this look has turned into one of my favorite shots as well.  I cant stand having negative people around me in life and although we all get down about different things, there's a limit to how much negativity ill allow.  I'm always talking about negativity here because I often say that a negative experience maybe something you can work it.  For me, I've turned negative experiences into this piece, and for others as they say, when one door closes, another opens, and it's absolutely true.  There's a silver lining on everything and you just need to find it.  If you are often negative about your daily life then look up, and concentrate on all the positives you have as well.  It's like when I look at film reviews online.  There are a lot of bad reviews out there, and more people are likely to complain about something that to praise it.
We are often overshadowed by these negative thoughts that creep into our heads, and it's all a matter of collecting those thoughts, shoving them in the ground and burying them six feed under.

Chase the devil for money, fame, for power, out of greed

Chase the devil for money, fame, for power, out of greed - Emeli Sande

Greed, a trait that it seems that alot of people have especially if you watch game shows.  We use the word 'greedy' as a negative term, yet we celebrate when someone takes a chance when gambling to get a bigger payout.  The definition of this term is to have an 'intense and selfish desire for something' and then the definition of selfish is 'lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure'.  We celebrate when someone wins who wants to be a millionaire, and commend them for getting that far, yet they had some level of greed and some level of lack of consideration for others.  We shouldn't celebrate the fact that these people use greed to become rich yet we do, and no-one seems to give much thought into the situation.
This look is inspired by the Queen of Hearts as she was incredibly greedy and she did chase the devil for money, fame and for power.

Don’t ask me i’ll never tell

Don’t ask me i’ll never tell - Carly Rae Jepsen

Inspiration for this look comes from the Saw movies and ventriloquist dolls.  I enjoyed this shoot, and yet again it was horrific to capture.  The main reason I use myself as a model is because number 1, I'm always free when I'm free and 2, I would most likely get sued for creating looks such as this one.  I seem to forget I have sensitive skin and I chemically stained my skin and burnt my face in the shape of these tears coming down my face.  For 2 days I had these red sore marks on my skin and luckily I didn't have to be anywhere for both these days.  I do love this lyric because normally if people ask me I will tell them, but like a ventriloquist doll, sometimes I'll just tell them what they want to hear.

Electra heart, i’m miss sugar pink liquor liquor lips

Electra heart, i’m miss sugar pink liquor liquor lips - Marina and the Diamonds

This shoot was nightmare to say the least.  I split liquid latex everywhere, my skin had an allergic reaction to it, and I went nearly blind in one eye for a day.  I have no idea how it happened but I knew there was an issue but I thought no, I'm going to get the shot I want first.  You can see how cloudy and pink my eye is and it probably happened when I decided to use pink face paint as eye liner.  I'm not really sure of my logic behind that either but there we go.  This pink liquid latex not only stained my skin, but it also damaged my skin in what was most likely a chemical burn.  It took nearly a month for these burns to clear and at one point I did think I would have these scars forever.  At least I would have a story to tell but unfortunately it's a story of my own stupidity.  Sometimes I'm not really sure where I should stop, and where's my limit, the limit doesn't seen to exist for me.

Fog out my daylight, torture my night

Fog out my daylight, torture my night - Mika

There are a few people out there who will know this lyric, it's pretty well hidden under one of my pet hates, artists who put 'bonus' songs after a track with over a 2 minute gap.  It turns a 4minute song into a 9 minute one, and I quite like this song, but I never play it because I'd need to play the album version of happy ending and fast forward to the right place.
I thought I'd discuss the story behind this makeup look because it's quite comical!  I drew inspiration from the film The Fog, and when i say this I just mean the movie poster, I don't think I could handle watching the film.  I knew I wanted to use liquid latex in this look to get the right consistency and that glossy finish.  Earlier in the week I had discovered I was allergic to liquid latex, but I wanted to create this look and nothing was going to stop me.  The smell of liquid latex is horrible on so many levels, but the fumes of these toxins are the real pain.  They seep into your eyes and make it unbearable to keep them open.  It really hurts and you shouldn't apply this near the eyes or mouth so don't do this yourself.  To combat this problem I had to put on swimming pool goggles to protect my eyes and I guess any sane person would stop there!  I now have liters of liquid latex sitting around and I don't think Ill be taking the same risk again, well, anytime soon!

Glamazon, female phenomenon

Glamazon, female phenomenon - RuPaul

London fashion week is coming to an end but the fashion season is only half way through!  I thought I'd theme this post around the models on the catwalk, after all they are living Glamazons.  When editing images of these mythical creatures what first stands out are the garments.  My views have changed when it comes to perception of catwalk beauty and what is acceptable.  I used to be pro usage of a variety of shapes and sizes, but this all changed as soon as I started working with these images.  It's incredibly noticeable when a model is even an inch smaller than another and there's something about a models measurements that fill the frame of an image perfectly.  Models get alot of bad press about their body image, but people seem to forget that a lot of these girls are naturally skinny, and yes, alot of them are not, but I bet they eat alot less before the fashion season starts because they need to look their best.  Actors and actresses may either loose or put on alot of weight to be right for a certain role.  It doesn't teach us that this is how we should be, it's peoples own insecurities who think like that.  I was talking to my friend once about how I would love my hair, and she said to me that you have to accept that although other people have it, it's not possible for me, and it never will be.  This logic can be used in any situation, we shouldn't feel bad about our own bodies because they are so skinny for the simple fact that we are not them.
At the end of the day they are just doing their job, and I, and I doubt you, can fault that.

Hypnotized by your destiny

Hypnotized by your destiny - Selena Gomez

Valentines day has just passed, well not for me as I've actually pre-written this blog entry!  Around the period of Valentines Day we seem to be reminded by the news and media that people are most likely to commit suicide on this day and I'm not really sure why they feel the need to remind us this ever year.  So I thought I would do a little research and tell you all what other key events of history occurred on the 14th of February!
Alexander Graham Bell applied for a patent of the telephone
Simon Pegg was born - very key event in history!
It was at this point I saw that St Valentine died on Valentines day hence the name, and that's where my research stops.  Apparently there aren't many facts about this St so apparently none of them are true.  If only he was mentioned in the bible, there would be all the facts people would need! Hmm, it appears we celebrate a day where no-one really knows the reason why we do it.  But then again, that's really the same for any 'religious' day.
This lyric was taken from 'I love you like a love song' - which to me means you love the person to begin with, then it grows a little old and you hate it.  Maybe it's a bad idea to love someone like a love song... I guess that's where Selena went wrong.

I set fire to the rain

I set fire to the rain - Adele

I never mean to create an image that has David Bowie aspects but somehow I manage to create them.  I'm not even a fan of Bowie, it's not as if I have pictures up of him everywhere that enter my mind subconsciously so I'm not sure where it comes from.  So moving on, this lyric is taken from Adele and she is one singer who I used to absolutely hate with a passion.  I couldn't stand her, and I shamefully turned my back on the TV to work during her someone like you performance.  It was a funny moment because I started to turn around slowly and actually watched it.  And like everyone else became obsessed with her after that.  I chose this lyric because it's often what I talk about, feeding on past negative experiences and making it into a positive.  It's all about turning something around and making it beneficial to you in someway.

Judas is the demon i cling to

Judas is the demon i cling to - Lady Gaga

If you've been looking at products I've used to create various looks, you would have seen that I've used alot of products from MUA.  This brand is available from Superdrug and it's fantastic.  Eye shadows are £1 and most products are.  They are highly pigmented and if anything I've found them better to use than MAC eye shadows.  The texture makes it harder to blend, but you have to sacrifice somewhere.  This look was created 100% by MUA products, and by just one palette.  The palette is called heaven and earth and i think it was either £3 or £4 so it really is a bargain.  MUA is a fantastic gem, I have no idea how long they last so maybe that is their downfall but overall I simple cannot fault them!  Sometimes it's good to buy drug store makeup brands and sometimes it's good to buy high end ones, but if you want to experiment with makeup or just starting out, stick with MUA.

Kiss me beneath the milky twilight

Kiss me beneath the milky twilight - Sixpence None The Richer

When I went to Paris for the first time I walked out onto my balcony that overlooked the road of the Gare du Nord and played this song on my mp3 player.  I stood there for a couple of minutes and just thought to myself quietly.  It was actually valentines day, and like usual I was alone.  One thing that drives me insane are people who moan about being single.  Haven't they watched SATC? It taught woman everywhere that being single can be a choice, but it seems like so many people out there feel the need to get into a relationship.  I don't need someone to define who I am, but if you want your Edward Cullen, go out there and get him.  I guess I can't really understand peoples logic when it comes to love, after all, I've never been in it.

This look is dedicated to Twilight.  Love it or hate it, it's been apart of our lives, and it brings back fond memories of watching these films with some of the people I care most about in life.

La vie en rose

La vie en rose - Edith Piaf

The translation of this lyric is 'Life in Pink', but not all translations are as easy as that.  There are a few french songs that I love, and although sometimes I think it would be great if these were in English  they would loose their translation.  You could say they are lost in translation, their meaning is stripped and they don't necessarily mean the same thing.  This post is dedicated to a friend of mine and were worlds apart, well an ocean apart, the Atlantic to be precise and shes a French Canadian.  What brought us together was a love of the same music, and although we are totally different, our opposites attract and we balance out each other quite well.  Music really is a universal language and it's reason like this why I love it so much.

This look was inspired by the burlesque and showgirls of Vegas along with the ballerina dancers of Swan Lake.  You could call in Pink Swan, maybe a sequel to Black Swan? Maybe not.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the flyest bitch of them all

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the flyest bitch of them all - Christina Aguilera

This was my very first shoot of Vanity Nightmare 2.0 and when I came up with the idea, I knew I had to make a second installment of Vanity Nightmare.  This was the first time I had used liquid latex and although I had previously carried out a skin test, I had an allergic reaction.  I actually didn't realize until a week later when my hand had a horrific red rash.  I have eczema so I just assumed it was that, but I knew it was slightly different and then I realized.  And as a general tip, I knew liquid latex rips out hairs, but I didn't expect it to be so paint full, even if they are very fine, so always shave the area!
I'm not quite sure where my obsession of the evil queen comes from, maybe because like me, shes a Vanity Nightmare!

Not myself tonight

Not myself tonight - Christina Aguilera

Were now half way through Vanity Nightmare 2.0, so if you haven't please check out the other images! Alice in Wonderland was my inspiration for this look, it had to be done once!  The remake of this film by Tim Burton was a monumental let down, and Tim Burton always pull through.  This film simply has to be made again, but not by Disney.  It needs to be edgy, almost horror like, and if you've ever read the book you would know it would be fantastic as a horror.  It needs to give you nightmares, not through people jumping out, but how horrors used to scare you, through a physiological story line.  Snow white and the huntsmen was everything Alice in Wonderland should have been and I don't think I will ever get over this let down...
So anyway, here is my interpretation of the Cheshire Cat!

Only girl in the world

Only girl in the world - Rihanna

Are we really sure the Mayans said the world was going to end in 2012 or was the just the media because it seems that's all they fed off.  In the 3 years I spent at university, I didn't watch the news once and you know what, I didn't die of bird flu, I didn't get that horrible computer virus and nothing bad happened.  The news is there to scare people on a global scale about events that 1 are not going to effect you at all, or 2 are ridiculous.  Don't get me wrong, it's important to know happening around the world, but read it, that way you have some control over what you read.  I, like many have my own problems in life, and I don't understand peoples logic who feel the need to watch the news.  And then there's the people who watch it, see all these horrific events happening around the world such as floods and death, and don't do anything to help.  It really sums up the demographic of today's public, standing around doing nothing and watching others in help without helping.  There are a few of us who do help out, but the majority don't and this needs to change.

Poison paradise im addicted

Poison paradise im addicted - Britney Spears

Inspiration for this shoot came from Poison Ivy.  I love batman, in fact, I love any superhero or supervillian.  I am such a comic book nerd, in fact I'm just a nerd.  Art nerd, fashion nerd, game nerd, and you know what it's a good thing to be nerdy! It gets alot of bad press and people who typically call people nerds are ones who don't have any talent them self, so life lesson - let the haters hate.
The reason why I love Poison Ivy so much is because shes a femme fatale, a woman who gets what shes wants through her sexuality.  Not only is this look inspired by her, but it's also inspired by the Venus flytrap and that idea of something being a hypnotizing beauty that lures people in.
