The Dirty Smokey Eye

This was going to be one of my new set of shoots I'm currently planning, but I didn't like any of the full lengths, so I've scrapped!  Here are some scraps from it! The first photo was actually a zoomed in frame that I did by accident, so I think it's quite funny that it turned out quite nicely!

I don't often have nightmares, until two nights ago, and I am literally terrified to go to sleep now because I'm scared I'll be taken back there.  The world that I was in was a modern futuristic city, where instead of a tube/subway or metro system, were individual carriages, like those you would find on a Ferris wheel.  Anyway, one of the group was in trouble because you had to pass these tests on each floor and she failed.  As a result black thread was punctured through her cheeks multiple times and sewn through her skin around her waist.  If one of us didn't do it she was going to be ripped apart because the thread was tied so tightly around her.  I volunteered and all I can remember is a thread going through my cheeks and this out of this world pain I was experiencing.  Later in the dream someone else failed a challenge so thread magically sewed up their eyes and mouth...

I literally have no idea where these ideas came from as I never watch horror films, they scare me too much, and because I have such a vivid imagination I trick myself into thinking these are real!

So some of you may look at me differently, I know I am, well at least questioning myself.  What I think is unusual about this dream, isn't about the horrors I thought up, it's more the fact that I put myself forward to save someone.  I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but in my dreams I always do what I would react how I would in real life.  In the spare of the moment I'd like to think I would put my life in danger to help others, but like many I guess we will never really know till that moment comes up!

Anyway, like I said, I'm currently in the process of new shoots, and I'm not going to allow some failed shoots get in the way of that.  So expect a slight delay on makeup themed posts till I get my head together, and stay tuned for my new series of images! x

Diaries from a Vanity Nightmare - The Miss Carter Show - Beyonce @ the O2 London

I have decided to call this section of the site 'Diaries from a Vanity Nightmare' as these will be separate from makeup related posts.  I've decided to create this separate section as it takes time planning for a shoot, and often I have other commitments and generally doing other things in between which leads to delays in posts!  So to kick start this new segment is a Beyonce themed post!
After trying, and not succeeding to get a Beyonce ticket when they were released, I had to turn to other means, and I found myself on Seatwave.com.  My motto in life is is that something is worth what you would pay for it, and although I paid quite alot more than the face value, it was worth it.  I also then got an early entry ticket from beyonce.turnupgroup.com which I strongly advise you to do, providing they haven't sold out for the day your going!

At the time the setlist was as follows:

'Run The World (Girls)' 'End of Time' 'Flaws And All' 'You Are a Queen (Interlude)''If I Were a Boy''Get Me Bodied''Baby Boy''Diva''Naughty Girl''Party''Freakum Dress''I Care''I Miss You''Schoolin' Life''Why Don't You Love Me''1+1''Irreplaceable''Love on Top''Survivor''Crazy In Love''Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)''Grown Woman''I Will Always Love You''Halo''Green Light'/'Suga Mama (Outro)'

This was my first time at being front row for a concert and it's such an amazing experience, it's almost on another level and it feels incredibly intimate and one-to-one.  It was also the best experience I've had at being standing at the O2, and absolutely nothing went wrong on the day which was kinda weird!  The only thing you could have said went 'wrong' was Beyonce throwing a bracelet at me, I missed it but about 1cm, it fell on the floor and one of the security guards walked off with it... ha, some nerve right?!
Best song of the night? All of them, worst song of the night? - Halo, and why? Because it meant the show was nearly finished :(

From the start to the finish I was snapping away with my camera, not looking at what I was pointing at, and hoping I would get at least one picture.  I took over 600 images and 200 were in focus, so result! I'm surprised at how good they came out actually, and it seemed that not only were my eyes fixated on Beyonce, but so was my camera

- These are all my images so please do not take without asking me first via markwrsmall@hotmail.co.uk - Thanks! x

A vision of ecstasy buried six feet under

A - This makeup look was inspired by video games such as Halo and Mass Effect.  I also took inspiration from Aquatic life as some fish have out of this world qualities.  I used 'Victim', an Illamasqua powder eye shadow mainly for this look as I wanted to create something that looked part alien and part human.  Illamasqua have such great unique eye shadows, and they allow you to use them in so many different ways to create different shades.  This eye shadow looks like an ordinary blue, but when you start building with it, it turns and evolves into a beautiful turquoise and because they are so pigmented they last for what seems like forever.
A is always a daunting shoot for me, as it's the first image people see when opening Vanity Nightmare 2.0 and because of this I often put it off.  It's like when starting a new page in a note pad, the first page is crisp and white and for some reason many of us are too scared to ruin or mess up the page.  Sometimes it's good to just go straight in there and do it, and others times it's better to plan.  Doing either will still end in having something written down on the page, but both create totally different results, sometimes good, and sometimes bad.  At the end of the day it's better to just do it, and people seem to waste too long thinking about something, and never actually getting around to doing it.  So my tip, is to do just that, and although your protecting yourself from mistakes by not doing something, your also wasting and loosing all the amazing things that could come your way if you just get out there, and do it.

B - This look was inspired by a sculpture I created when I was at college, and I wanted to reinvent it in a different medium such as makeup.  I chose this Katy Perry lyric from 'Firework' because at times it feels like you can be six feet under with no hope or no means of escape, and it was exactly how I felt when I created my sculpture.  Creating this look was almost like a session of self therapy for me and it's one of my strongest images because I have the strongest emotions towards the concept behind this look.  The sculpture I created in college was me turning something negative into to a positive and I found a way to channel my emotions into something constructive, which I believe is incredibly important for your own well being.  The nail art in the final image is barley visible and the metal nails on the false nails act as tool, a means of escape through clawing your way out of the dark.  Although this image overall is poorly lit, there is some light, and it can sometimes be hard to find in the literal and psychical sense.
