Ice Pinocchio

Ice Age - Part of me wishes this look was inspired by the film Frozen because that film is amazing!  So for the sake of this blog post this is a Disney Frozen makeup inspired look.  In reality I'm obsessed with 'Let it Go' at the moment and because it's a song it means I can use it in my next installment! To begin with I thought this would be the end of my music inspired posts, but like I mentioned in my previous post, my inspiration has come back and I'm not sure where.  I go through these phases of being motivated and I know I've distracted myself too much from life over the past couple of months.  I can learn alot from 'Let it Go' and I think alot of people can too if you give it a chance.

Pinocchio - So here it is, the last post of Vanity Nightmare at the Movies and boy has it been a roller coaster for me!  It's taken me hours to create each look and its been worth every second.  My next set of posts are going to be all fashion week related.  It's been a long time in the running and by that I mean I've put it off for more than a year and I'm only just doing it now.  It's nearly February which brings another fashion season for me which means no more makeup posts till April at the earliest.  I've never been good at posting on time or in regular amounts but who cares and who even keeps up with this blog religiously?! It feels so great to put something together from conception to a final product and although theres ups and downs, the pay off is always great.  It now leaves a void which needs to be filled by new makeup looks and hopefully I'll create something else that I can be proud of.

Vanity Nightmare is a part of me.  It always has and it always will.  We hope to one day forget are past and our inner demons and when people say it gets better you just expect them to dissolve forever.  'It gets better' is a very loose term and people may their own conclusions of how this might happen.  I think the reality is that everything that happens to you in life stays with you until you die.  Don't just expect negative life experiences to go away.  Of course they won't but shutting yourself away from negatives also shuts you away from positives so I say open up those doors and let me have it because were strong human beings and we have the strength inside to carry on.

Finding Cleopatra

Link to: Finding Dory (2015)

Cleopatra - It was about time I created an Egyptian inspired makeup look and gave it some justice it deserved. This shoot marks the second time I used hairspray to coat my skin in layers and layers...  I forgot how much fun sand is to work with and by fun I mean there was none.  I seemed to forget how messy it can be and when wet it hardens, but it also cracks.  I was forced with having to keep my movements to a minimal and luckily I use the same pose throughout ;)  I used gold spray on my hair which looked great in the light and awful when the flash was used.  The result looks like I'm wearing some cheap horrid wig but it's quite amusing!

Finding Dory - Move over Nemo for there's a new fish in town that's about to steal the lime light.  Well not really new... and is Nemo in this film? I could look on IMDB but to be honest I don't really care and I wonder how many others do too?  This look was initially created for a potential choice for my FMP at university.  I fell in love with it and it never really got used.  It's quite funny really because the main thing that inspired this look was the Halloween zip face that a lot of people have created on youtube.  Who would have thought something like that could inspire a Disney fish look!  As I often say, inspiration can come from anywhere!

Phantom Atlantis

Link to: Star Wars Phantom Menace (1999)
Link to: Atlantis The Lost Empire (2001)

Star Wars Phantom Menace - So Star Wars 7 is in the works, have you auditioned because it's too late!  Star Wars has this habit of falling into the complete nerd fest category where people who would probably be interested in just shrug it off their shoulder.  It's funny how people are scared to be them self.  It can be extreme or it can be just having no memory of what Star Wars is.  I however have a pretty good memory, I just don't always remember which way the puzzle works, or for this example which order the films are in!  Maybe he did plan it that way.  If your going to leave un-answered questions of course people are going to want to know the lead up to it!  It's pretty genius really.  People don't really care so much of what happens after films.  The film ends and that's it.  But no, when you create not fully rounded characters it's almost peoples right to know, and the production and distribution companies knew that, or at least some of them did.

Atlantis The Lost Empire - This look was a combination of Disney meets Ru Pauls Drag Race.  I wanted to create a Glamazon Amazon look and this isn't the first time I've tried it.  No doubt people look at my images and judge them.  The kind people will give them praise but the majority will look at them and have pure negative thoughts about them.  So to whoever is reading this, next time evaluate yourself which one you are.  Negative people have negative thoughts and you should chance your outlook in life if the majority of comments you have are of hatred.  My looks and skills are far from perfect and it's fine to think negative thoughts.  BUT, these negative thoughts should be constructive and if they aren't then boy do you have a problem.

Trek of the Guardians

Link to: Rise of the Guardians (2012)
Link to: Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Rise of the Guardians - Put Chris Pine in a movie and I'm sold.  Put Isla Fisher in a movie and I'm there.  I don't remember the last time I felt so emotionally driven by a movie and it was just such a feel good movie and it was probably the sort of film I needed to watch at that moment.  It was inspiring and the film had a life of it's own that blossomed and it was just great!  This look was inspired by the the fable that Isla voices which is the Tooth Fairy.  I wanted to create a vulnerable image that has mixed signs all of which you can semi read in the eyes.  As they say the eyes have it and I think I've captured it here.  You can tell alot by reading someones eyes and never second guess your instinct.

Star Trek Into Darkness - I had so much fun with this shoot.  So many things went wrong during the shoot but I used my inner Xena and worked with my flaws.  There was so many images to choose from for this shoot and I settled for the complete opposite of how a Klingon is portrayed i.e with glamour!  The nail art I used here are a set I created a while ago and I love any chance to re use them!  I used mainly MUA products for this look which can be bought in Superdrug.  I always rave about this brand as it's mainly £1 for the majority of their products!  I used a palette called Heaven and Earth and it's basically a cheaper version of the Naked palette of which I'm sure you know!

World Mask

Link to: The Mask (1994)
Link to: War Z (2013)

The Mask - The previous looks I created during this instalment involved some kind of body art, so here I wanted to strip it back down and just focus on my face.  I wanted to create a masculine look and make myself look different from how I've looked before.  I used sugar candies to complete this look and I dusted over these with power eye shadows from Barry M.  In post production I created a camouflage background because makeup can be used as war paint, and here I am going, or at least preparing for battle.

War Z - I finally got around to watching this film and to be honest I was disappointed.  It doesn't matter what world a film is set in, Iceland, Metroplois, Arkham City, it doesn't matter! Because I'm pretty sure post apocalyptic movies would have been around, and people would know how to react!  Movie directors use the same predictable pause moments over and over again, I mean come on!  Lets have a zombie movie where people know what to do yet they still die.  Now I probably still won't watch it till months after but I'll be less annoyed when I finally watch it!

Gladiator and the Chocolate Factory

Link to: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Link to: Gladiator (2000)

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - I write this post after just eating two bars of chocolate.  Yesterday I ate a massive bag of M&Ms.  Not the 150g packs, the 300g 'more to share' jumbo bag.  I feel like I'm writing a confessional and maybe I should before I resemble Augustus Gloop.  Don't you think it's strange that Wonka bars are a certain purple that seem very similar to Cadburys... Anyway!  For this look I wanted to pay homage to the purple wrappers and the gold ticket.  I wanted to create something that was out of this world and looked a little supernatural and I think it at least paid off! And if your wondering, yes I did color my hair! Barry M glitter dust pots have so many uses!  And as you can see it didn't dye my hair at all so I'd say if you have blonde or white hair and want to color it for a night - turn to powder eye shadows!

Gladiator - This is definitely in my top 3 favourite looks from Vanity Nightmare at the Movies.  It was also a mess to create!!!  I first hairsprayed my body so I could create a tacky surface to stick the confetti to.  I then sprayed over more to set and then sprayed more to layer more on top.  By this part my skin was already resisting movement and I wasn't finished yet.  After I was happy that I had enough hairspray on my body - to the point it was dripping down me, I then got out my gold hair spray and coated everything in gold, including my body which was already painted gold.  I then ran out of gold which is why some bits are coated fully and others aren't.  I love the effect though and when things don't go as planned I just accept it and role with it!  I wanted to create a statue ish look and being sealed in hairspray helped me achieve that!  I also stuck cake decorations around my eyes with eye lash glue which only added to the fact I couldn't move my body!

Ghostbusters Forever

Link to: Ghostbusters (1984)

Link to: Batman Forever (1995)

Ghostbusters - I tend to revisit materials or techniques I've used before in posts so it was only a matter of time before I created a paint inspired look for this series.  I've mentioned previously that this post was was changed from one film and the green paint was added at the end, so I won't talk about that again here!  If you do want to read about that then please click the link above!  The white shatter polish I used here is OPI and I bought this from TK MAXX.  I do love that store just for their beauty section as old ranges from OPI are often around to grab!  This game which the most amazing limited edition silver/gold glitter which is so pigmented.  People really shouldn't buy cheap nail polishes when your money can spread so much further using more expensive brands.  Don't just think your buying the brand name and also don't just assume it's good because of the brand name.  People have hit and miss experiences with all types of brands so do some research before purchasing!

Batman Forever - I am such a comic book geek, and Batman is one of my favourite.  Batman is from the DC universe (Superman, Wonderwoman and Green Lantern are also from there) and it's not my first time I've created a Batman look.  Before I've created a poison ivy look which you can find clicking this link.  This was the first time I've painted with precision on my body, typically I fill either colour it one colour and highlight after or I'll create a messy paint effect.  I don't normally like working with lines - which is probably the one thing you won't hear a makeup artist say.  Don't get me wrong.  In graphic design I live for lines and shapes, but in makeup - no. When I create something I want to put my energy into it and make something come alive but I do have an understanding of pushing myself. I just may not necessarily act on it.

Order of the A.I.

Link to: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Link to: A.I. (2001)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - I wanted to revisit some makeup techniques with this look and I also really wanted to create a fire like makeup look.  I created the body paint using a mixture of snazaroo makeup and Wonder Woman makeup from MAC.  This was mixed with a mixing medium to turn the powder into a liquid that I could work with.  From creating these images I've noticed that my nose isn't straight and I know it was due to the fact I broke the cartilage in my nose in primary school.  The downside is a bent nose but I do get to freak out people when I move my nose and they can hear a crunching noise, - silver linings guys!  Because of this I created it perfectly symmetrical on my nose and then when I looked in the mirror it was completely off.  It means that in all my makeup looks I have to create an illusion that my nose is straight and I didn't completely pull it off here! Ah well!  The nails were created using a mixture of OPI, Barry M, Claires glitter and sweets!

A.I. - I get very inspired by music videos and I know this was inspired by something out there but I can't put my finger on it.  Painting myself black that is, not the whole robot spin which hopefully its unique??  Christina and also the Sugababes always inspired me for makeup looks and these have always stuck out for me.  I admire makeup looks now in different ways and I guess that's due to me changing as a person.  This makeup look was a nightmare to wash off.  I used two blacks and one literally stains your skin and doesn't come off no matter how much soap and water you use.  I ended up looking like someone from the coal mines for 5 days after… At least I didn't have to leave my house! Although it did stop me from doing other makeup looks which was a little annoying...
